One of Europe’s Most Legendary Rivers Awaits You
One of Europe’s most legendary rivers awaits you on this exciting journey along the Rhine River, which takes you across Germany—and touches in Holland, France, and Switzerland!
This magnificent river cruise begins in the ever popular, modern city of Amsterdam, Holland with a night of pre-cruise lodging. The best way to see the treasures of this 700-year-old city is on a canal cruise along the elegant Grachten lined with homes dating back to the city’s “Golden Age.”
You’ll also visit the dynamic city of Cologne, Germany—a 2,000 year-old city known for its gothic architecture and famous twin-spired cathedral, and the many shops, cafés, and taverns of popular Old Town.
You’ll sail through the spectacular Rhine Gorge—the most beautiful stretch of the Rhine River—where ancient castles stand on cliffs 400 feet above the water. Visit the charming wine town of Rüdesheim, and visit the unique Siegfried’s Mechanical Musical Instrument Museum.
Continue your Rhine River cruise to Mainz for a guided walk and visit to the captivating Gutenberg Museum. Join a guided excursion to Heidelberg to visit the ruins of its red-walled castle. In Strasbourg, France, you’ll be amazed by the red-sandstone gothic cathedral with ancient murals and fascinating astronomical clock. Also, stroll through the lovely La Petite France district with its quaint shops, delightful bistros, and peaceful waterfront promenade.
Before the end of your European river cruise vacation, stop in Breisach, Germany, the gateway to Germany’s Black Forest—an area of unrivaled natural beauty—best known for Black Forest ham, cherry cake, and the cuckoo clock.
Enjoy a FIRST-CLASS high-speed train ride from Basel as we begin our 3 nights in Paris.
3 nights lodging and guided sightseeing includes a drive past the Latin Quarter, Les Invalides, Place de la Concorde, the Arc de Triomphe, and a stop to take photos of the Eiffel Tower from one of the best panoramic viewing points. Also admire the heart of the city from a different perspective on a SEINE RIVER CRUISE. Board your comfortable boat near the Eiffel Tower and spend a relaxing hour gliding by many of the city’s important landmarks such as the L’Institut de France, magnificent Notre Dame Cathedral, Hôtel de Ville, the Conciergerie, famous Louvre Palace and museum, and much more.

The selection of cafes, restaurants, shops and pubs in Jordaan can be daunting. Leave it to your knowledgeable, fun and experienced local guide to show you the best of the best…off the main drag, down tiny side streets to authentic, historic places. Each proprietor has a love for this area and it shows in the care and passion put into each and every dish you taste.
Amsterdam is surrounded by water, so it makes sense that herring is a staple here. Our fish shop is owned by a former fisherman who insists on offering only the freshest products, all caught using sustainable practices.
The delicatessen we visit is a lovely spot, with stained glass windows and beautiful ironwork. But nothing will outshine the mouth-watering selection of cheeses and charcuterie found here. Try not to drool.
During the period of Dutch colonization in Indonesia, not surprisingly, Indonesia’s culture was influenced by the Dutch. And conversely, Dutch culture has been influenced by Indonesia as well. We’ll taste this influence in a small but authentic Indonesian restaurant, delivering the freshest offerings with a uniquely Asian flare.
This area’s butcher shop sticks with time-honored recipes using the best cuts of meat and the finest spices to produce their famous sausages.
We’ll visit 3 of Jordaan’s best cafes for a delicious taste of Amsterdam’s favorites. One is famous for its apple pie, using a tried-and-true recipe from the 1700’s. Another will delight you with its borrelhapjes (appetizers) and a 3rd known for its light and fluffy pancakes.
This is a walking tour, which means you will walk off all the calories you are consuming.
We will then transfer to board the beautiful Avalon Panorama ship for an overnight docking in Amsterdam.
